New Florida Medicaid Covered Benefit: In Lieu of Services Alternatives​ 

Beginning  Feb. 1, 2025, you now have the option to provide your Florida Medicaid clients with a new service— In Lieu of Services (ILOS), which are alternative services that are medically appropriate and cost-effective substitutes for covered services. In accordance with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid 42 CFR § 438.3(e)(2)(i)) final rule, states must determine ILOS’s are cost effective substitutes for covered services or settings under the state plan. 

ILOS helps improve access to services in a more culturally responsive manner while also enhancing care coordination for high-need members. The services also reduce hospital and nursing facility care and emergency department utilization. Intensive outpatient programs, ambulatory detox and partial hospitalization are just a few examples of ILOS services.
